The Miami Heat finally succeeded in landing Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, but it doesn’t look like they’ll be bringing any of his brothers in with him. NBA insider Ramona Shelburne reported on the Mason & Ireland Show on Friday that only one Antetokounmpo is expected to be on the Heat’s roster next season.

“There won’t be any more Antetokounmpo brothers in Miami,” Shelburne said. “That whole ‘We have Kostas and Thanasis on the team,’ I don’t think that’s going to continue from what I understand.”

This is perhaps not all too surprising, considering Pat Riley is the Heat’s president. You’d imagine this would have been conveyed to Giannis as well. If it wasn’t, well, then this partnership wouldn’t be getting off to the best of starts.

Giannis had his older brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo by his side for a significant portion of his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks signed Thanasis in 2019, and despite his not making much of an impact on the court, they kept him around for his younger brother.

Thanasis’ first stint with the Bucks lasted from 2019 to 2024. He was only let go in 2024 because he had torn his Achilles tendon in May. Once Thanasis recovered, the Bucks signed him to a one-year deal in August 2025.

Months later, in October 2025, the Bucks signed Alex Antetokounmpo, the youngest brother, to a two-way contract. Alex had previously spent time with the Wisconsin Herd, their G League affiliate.

Alex made his NBA and Bucks debut on March 31, 2026, against the Dallas Mavericks. He wouldn’t get to play with Giannis, who was sidelined by injury, last season, but did share the court with Thanasis. They became the first trio of brothers to be signed to the same team’s active roster.

Now, Shelburne brought up Kostas Antetokounmpo there, but he actually never played for the Bucks. Kostas suited up for the Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA. He won a championship with the Lakers in 2020 and is currently a free agent after Greek side Olympiakos announced the termination of his contract on Saturday.

You might have thought Kostas could be coming to Miami after the news broke, but Shelburne’s comments here indicate that’s not happening. He’ll have to look elsewhere to continue his professional career.

Thanasis and Alex might have to look at overseas options as well. It’s hard to see a scenario where an NBA team signs them if the Heat aren’t going to.

Thanasis averaged 1.4 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game last season. Alex, meanwhile, put up 3.2 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists, and 0.2 blocks per game. They’re just not good enough.

Giannis, on the other hand, is more than good enough. The 10-time All-Star averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game for the Bucks in 2025-26.

Giannis only played 36 games due to injuries, but that wasn’t going to stop the Heat from going after him. They have landed the 31-year-old and Bobby Portis for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft (Nate Ament), unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a pick swap in 2030, and a 2033 second-round pick.

The Heat have basically gone all-in. This move may or may not lead to them winning a title, but you can’t blame them for trying.
