The Los Angeles Lakers have continued their recent hot streak of form by picking up their sixth win in seven games over the Utah Jazz. The Lakers were on the second night of a back-to-back and traveled to Utah for this game last night with LeBron James being unavailable, winning 138-122.

The Lakers were a four-headed monster today. Anthony Davis led the team admirably in LeBron’s absence, scoring 37 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Rui Hachimura had a career-high 36 points, while D’Angelo Russell had a career-high 16 assists. Austin Reaves had a 20-point showing as the stars shined in Utah.
The Jazz tried to be competitive through the first half in a team effort. They had seven players score in double-digits, led by Collin Sexton’s 18 points. Jordan Clarkson had 17 points while Lauri Markkanen disappointed with a 16-point night.
The Lakers Are Red-Hot Heading Into All-Star Break
The 30-26 Lakers will mark the start of the final stretch of the regular season after the All-Star break with a marquee matchup with the Golden State Warriors. After reports of the Warriors trying to trade for LeBron James over the deadline, James will have some extra motivation to show the world why Golden State wanted him. The Lakers have won six out of their last seven games and are slowly gaining on the playoff field ahead of them.
Despite their good form, the eight teams in front of them have also kept their records steady. Outside the Sacramento Kings, each top-six contender has been electric. The Pelicans have won seven of their last eight games while the Suns have won seven of their last nine. The Mavericks sit at the top of the play-in and are currently on a six-game winning streak, while the Warriors could extend their win streak to six as well if they can beat the Clippers tonight.
The Lakers and Warriors will both be geared up for their matchup given how Golden State are also trying to save their season by making a march up the standings. But the form the Lakers are on will be encouraging for the franchise that stood pat at the deadline outside signing Spencer Dinwiddie on the buyout market.
The West is heating up and the Lakers need to stay as hot as possible to cut through the winning ways of the teams ahead of them in the standings and stay ahead of teams like the Warriors.
