The Golden State Warriors have already been linked to several blockbuster trades this offseason, but this one proposed three-team trade idea would completely reshape their future.
Sports Illustrated’s Alex Golden recently suggested a deal that would send Myles Turner to Golden State, Draymond Green to the Los Angeles Clippers, and Bogdan Bogdanovic plus Isaiah Jackson to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Golden State Warriors Receive: Myles Turner
Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Draymond Green
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Isaiah Jackson
All three teams missed the playoffs last season, and at least two of these teams will be looking to change that moving forward.
The Warriors finished with a 37-45 record, earning the 10th seed in the Western Conference before getting knocked out in the play-in tournament. Their season was disrupted by injuries, with Stephen Curry missing significant time and Jimmy Butler suffering an Achilles injury that ruled him out.
The Clippers finished with a 42-42 record but also fell short in the play-in tournament. Their future remains uncertain, as questions surround the direction of the franchise with Kawhi Leonard entering the final year of his deal and potentially seeking a move if extension talks stall.
Then there are the Bucks, who are fresh off trading Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat and have fully entered rebuild mode. Moving off Turner’s massive long-term salary would be the next step in that process. Milwaukee finished with a 32-50 record, missing the playoffs and ending the season in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
This Trade Would Mark The End Of An Era For The Warriors
For Golden State, the move would mark the end of one of the greatest eras in franchise history. Green has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors and has been the defensive heartbeat of four championship teams alongside Stephen Curry.
But in return, the Warriors would land one of the NBA’s best two-way centers. Turner averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 blocks while shooting 44.0% from the field and 38.3% from beyond the arc. His ability to stretch the floor while protecting the rim has made him one of the league’s most valuable big men.
He also comes on a long-term deal. Turner signed a four-year, $108.8 million contract and is owed $26.5 million next season, $27.8 million in 2027-28, and has a $29.1 million player option for the 2028-29 season.
On paper, Turner is an excellent basketball fit next to Stephen Curry. His pick-and-pop ability would create even more spacing, while his shot blocking addresses one of Golden State’s biggest weaknesses.
But this trade is far more complicated than just swapping stars. Trading Green would change the Warriors’ identity. His leadership, defensive communication and chemistry with Curry remain central to Steve Kerr’s offensive and defensive schemes. Replacing that impact is impossible.
This kind of move only makes sense if the Warriors are able to execute on other blockbuster trades. The Warriors have already been linked to Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James and other players. There are reports of the Warriors trading for Anthony Davis to lure LeBron in free agency.
If none of those superstar moves happen, keeping Green makes far more sense than swapping him for Turner.
The Clippers Would Add An Elite Defender To Improve Their Chances
The Clippers, meanwhile, would add another elite defender to place alongside Kawhi Leonard. Last season, Green averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting 41.8% from the field and a career-best 42.6% from three-point range. He is entering the final season of his four-year, $100 million contract with a $27.6 million player option.
Green’s versatility, experience and championship pedigree would strengthen a team hoping to maximize its current title window around Leonard and newly acquired point guard Darius Garland.
The Bucks Gain Financial Flexibility
The Bucks gain financial flexibility for the future with this idea. Milwaukee would move off the remaining years of Turner’s contract while receiving Bogdan Bogdanovic and Isaiah Jackson.
Bogdanovic averaged just 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, shooting 38.8% from the field and 34.7% from three-point range, playing in just 23 games in his worst season as an NBA player. He is in the final year of his 4-year, $68 million deal, where he will make $16 million next season.
Jackson adds depth to a Bucks squad entering a new era. He is an athletic young center who averaged 7.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and shot an outstanding 76.4% from the field after arriving from the Pacers. Jackson is entering the second year of his three-year, $21 million contract, giving Milwaukee additional short-term financial flexibility.
The Warriors Should Only Consider This Deal If Other Blockbuster Trades Fall Into Place
While the proposal makes financial sense for all three organizations, Golden State’s willingness to move on from Green ultimately depends on whether an even bigger superstar is arriving next.
In the end, this trade idea highlights the balance between maintaining a championship core and pursuing roster upgrades, and unless the Warriors are confident it elevates them back into title contention, parting ways with Green may be a risk they are not ready to take.
