The Lakers have made several changes to their roster this summer, including multiple signings confirmed within a span of 30 minutes. Among them was the pivotal addition of former 76ers guard Quentin Grimes to their roster.

Grimes is a sharpshooting guard who slips into the roster to replace Luke Kennard, who the Lakers lost to the Suns in free agency. The 26-year-old has career averages of 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 44.6% from the field and 36.6% from behind the three-point line.

Following the signing, Grimes posted a picture of his father and him from back when the 26-year-old was just an infant. He showed that he was wearing the Lakers’ merchandise nearly two decades ago while he was still in his father’s arms.

NBA fans saw this post on social media, and it melted their hearts. They filled the comments with optimistic messages for the newest addition to the Lakers’ roster.

“Meant to be. 💜💛”

“Dude, I’m so happy for you! Loved you as a Knick and always enjoyed at least watching you play when you were in Philly. I’m so glad you’re going to the Lakers cause I can’t root for the Sixers. 🤣”

“Welcome to the Lakeshow.”

“This is what you call a full circle moment.”

“Signing you was the best thing that happened for the Lakers today. Welcome home, demon.”

“Bro is back with Luka.”

Most of the comments were giving him a heartfelt welcome to the franchise, and some fans of Luka Doncic were also fired up to see him reunite with his former Mavericks teammate.

But to be fair, he joined the Mavericks in the next season after their NBA Finals run, where they played only 21 games alongside each other. Although that does not take away from how promising this addition is for the Lakers.

Grimes is a second-generation basketball player in his family. His father, Marshall Grimes, was a former point guard for Santa Clara University. As the picture above proves, Marshall Grimes introduced his son to basketball and the Lakers very early in his life.

He taught Quentin Grimes the shooting mechanics that made his son the sharpshooter that he is today. Early on in his life, Grimes always made his son play against older players to keep him ready to face players who are better than him.

The Lakers fans are hoping that his father’s training, combined with what they have seen from Grimes, especially from beyond the arc throughout his career, can help them convert it into a potential championship-winning piece, even if he is expected to be a role player.
