Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade has managed to stay out of trouble with the law despite being in the spotlight for decades, but the same can no longer be said about his son, Zaire Wade. Zaire was arrested on June 21 on suspicion of domestic violence, according to PEOPLE.
“He was arrested and booked for domestic violence, criminal threats, and false imprisonment,” a Burbank Police spokesperson told PEOPLE. “Detectives will be presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing considerations.”
NBC Los Angeles reported that Burbank police had been called to a home at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday after a woman was heard screaming. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Zaire and the woman, who had “lacerations on her face and body.” A handgun was also found in the house.
Zaire was then arrested while paramedics checked on the woman. She was not transported to a hospital, but an emergency protective order was issued.
Zaire wouldn’t be behind bars for too long, as he posted a $50,000 bond and was released later that day. Neither the 24-year-old nor anyone from the Wade family has commented on the matter. Zaire is Dwyane’s eldest child from his first marriage with Siohvaughn Funches. He chose to follow in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in basketball.
As tends to be the case, though, the son of the all-time great didn’t turn out to be quite as good as the father. Zaire began his high school career at Mount Carmel and then spent his sophomore and junior years at American Heritage School. He’d move to Sierra Canyon for his senior year, but that wasn’t the end of it.
Zaire opted to take a postgraduate year at Brewster Academy instead of going to college. Following a year there, the Salt Lake City Stars selected him with the 10th pick in the 2021 NBA G League Draft.
Zaire failed to make much of an impact with the Stars and then suffered a season-ending injury in March 2022. Just under a year later, in February 2023, he signed with the Cape Town Tigers of the Basketball Africa League.
After a season with the Tigers, Zaire would be on the move again as he joined the Macau Black Bears of The Asian Tournament in April 2024. That appears to have been the last time he played professionally.
In February 2026, Zaire told ESPN he was interested in playing college basketball. He was said to be receiving interest from several D1 programs, but you’d imagine colleges might be staying away following this arrest. It will be interesting to see what Zaire has to say about this incident.
