LeBron James‘ love for golf is well known at this point, but he isn’t the only member of his family who enjoys the sport. LeBron’s eldest son, Bronny James, has turned into quite the enthusiast as well, and he was playing golf recently when he was subjected to some hilarious trash talk.

Bronny was the latest big name that the Country Club Adjacent podcast’s Jake Adams chose for their Back Off Challenge, and he took the lighthearted jabs like a champ.

“Bronny, when you get a foul, do you ask the ref, ‘Do you know who my dad is?'” Adams said. “Just imagine how good you would be if your dad was [Michael] Jordan?”

The chirping didn’t faze Bronny at all, as he hit a great shot. Everyone present, including Austin Reaves, appeared to be quite impressed. Considering Bronny only started playing golf in 2025, it’s incredible how well he plays. The 21-year-old will never hit the heights that LeBron did in basketball, but he might be the best golfer in the James household.

Getting back to the jabs, there are a couple of ways you can interpret the second one. One would be from a golf standpoint, and the other from a basketball standpoint.

Let’s look at golf first. While LeBron is getting better at the game after picking it up in 2025, he is nowhere near as good as Michael Jordan. Michael used to play golf even during his time with the Chicago Bulls, and is a bit of an expert at this point. Adams could have been jokingly implying that Bronny would be much better at golf today if the Bulls icon were his father.

The other angle, of course, is implying that Bronny would be a much better basketball player if Michael were his father instead of LeBron. While that’s a funny jab, it’s one that can be dismissed fairly easily.

Michael has two sons, Jeffrey and Marcus. They both played basketball in college, but decided against going pro. The fact of the matter is that neither Jeffrey nor Marcus was actually good enough to make it to the NBA. Being Michael’s sons didn’t give them any advantage on the court.

Bronny, on the other hand, just finished his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He chose to go pro after his freshman year at USC, and the Lakers selected him with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Now, Bronny’s critics would, of course, argue that the only reason he is in the NBA today is because of LeBron. He averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game at USC after suffering a cardiac arrest before the season, and players usually don’t get picked after posting those kinds of numbers.

The only way that the nepotism tag will go away is if Bronny shines in the NBA. He has had some impressive moments, but is still nowhere near good enough to play big minutes.

Bronny averaged 2.9 points, 0.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game for the Lakers in 2025-26. While he has improved over time, there is a long way to go. Until there is significant growth, his critics will continue to cry foul.
