Former NBA player Tristan Thompson appeared on the latest episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast, and his ex-fiancée, Khloe Kardashian, was unsurprisingly brought up in it. At one point, host Shannon Sharpe mentioned that Khloe helps care for Tristan’s youngest brother, Amari, who has Lennox–Gastaut syndrome, and asked him what that means to him.

“It means the world,” Tristan said. “… We have two nurses that take care of him around the clock, 24 hours. He’s nonverbal, he can’t walk, he’s in a wheelchair, so he needs assistance for everything. So with her stepping up and saying, ‘Hey, you go focus on basketball and focus on your career and go back to Cleveland and go do what you love to do,’ if it wasn’t for that, I don’t know if I’d be able to go back to Cleveland and play them last 2 years and get 14 years.”

Now, keep in mind, Tristan returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2023. That was about two years after Khloe had split from him for good in December 2021 because he had cheated on her again.

Tristan had fathered a son with Maralee Nichols at the time, and no one could blame Khloe, who had gotten engaged to him in February 2021, for ending the relationship after that. Despite all of this, though, she still volunteered to help care for Amari.

“I don’t want to say time-consuming, because that’s a bad thing, but it takes a lot of hands-on work,” Tristan said. “‘Cause even right now, middle of the night, we’re getting texts, and we’re calling doctors. If I’m in Cleveland… I’m going to text the nannies and the nurse, but who’s their point of contact if they got to go to UCLA and go see a doctor middle of the night in the ER?

“I’m in Cleveland,” Tristan added. “How’s it going to happen? So, she stepped up and been literally like a guardian angel savior.”

Sharpe was amazed by this. He asked Tristan if he understood how special a woman Khloe is, as she has no obligation whatsoever to help out. The 35-year-old might not have in the past, but he does now.

“When people ask me about Khloe, I always give her her flowers because she doesn’t have to do that,” Tristan said. “But that just shows the type of amazing woman she is, and it doesn’t stop with her being a mom.

“She’s an amazing mom, and she makes my life easy where I can go pursue all the endeavors that I want to achieve and all the extracurricular I want to work on, and my passion projects,” Tristan added. “Because I know she’s going to hold the fort down and make sure True and Tatum are good, but also Amari’s good. And she takes care of Amari just as much as she cares about True and Tatum.”

True is Tristan and Khloe’s first child together. She was born on April 12, 2018. Days before her birth, it was rumored that Tristan had cheated on Khloe. Then, in February 2019, TMZ reported she had dumped him after he cheated on her with Jordyn Woods, who was Kylie Jenner’s best friend at the time.

Khloe and Tristan got back together in 2020, but as we know now, they wouldn’t be together for too long. They had secretly gotten engaged in 2021, only to split later in the year.

During the time they were engaged, Khloe had spoken about using a surrogate to have a second child with Tristan. Well, on July 28, 2022, they welcomed their son Tatum via surrogacy.

Taking care of two children is no small task, and Khloe cares for Amari on top of that. Tristan is extremely grateful to her, and he should be.
