The Chicago Bulls may have drafted more than just a talented prospect with the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. If Caleb Wilson is to be believed, they may have selected a player who intends to chase the biggest legacy in basketball history.

Before hearing his name called on draft night, Wilson made it clear that his goals extend far beyond simply reaching the NBA.

While appearing on ESPN ahead of the draft, the former North Carolina star spoke openly about his ambitions and the mindset that has fueled his rise from Atlanta to becoming one of the most coveted prospects in the country.

Kendrick Perkins: “You play with so much passion. Coach Seth said you have a KG-type mentality. And I know where KG’s passion came from. When you step on the floor, it seems like you’re releasing something. Where does that passion come from? That chip on your shoulder?”

Caleb Wilson: “I’m just hungry, bro. I’m hungry.”

Kendrick Perkins: “You play like you’re starving.”

Caleb Wilson: “I’m hungry. I’m starving. I want to be the greatest ever. And I don’t feel like that’s out of my reach. I’ve been blessed with the height, the athleticism, everything I need to become a great player. Now it’s all up to me. So I’m going to work hard. I’m going to be the hardest worker. I’m going to do what it takes. But I’m hungry. I’m starving.”

For a player joining the Chicago Bulls, those comments carry extra significance. Chicago remains synonymous with Michael Jordan, the six-time NBA champion who built the greatest dynasty in franchise history and is still viewed by many as the greatest player ever. Any player drafted by the Bulls will inevitably be compared to the legends who came before him, but Wilson is not running from those expectations.

Instead, he appears to be embracing them. Chicago clearly believes he can become a foundational piece of its rebuild.

After being selected fourth overall, Wilson could barely contain his excitement.

“I mean, I’m excited. Beyond excited for this opportunity,” he said. “I feel like I’ll do great with the team, and I already have a good relationship with some of the players. So I’m just ready to get to work.”

Wilson also revealed a personal connection to the city, mentioning Chicago rapper Lucki as one of his favorite artists. But basketball is what matters most. The Bulls have spent years searching for a true franchise cornerstone capable of leading them back into contention. Wilson believes he can become exactly that player.

In another interview, Wilson spoke with Laura Govan and sounded like a player already focused on restoring a historic franchise.

Laura Govan: “Caleb, congratulations. You’re heading to Chicago. How does it feel to be going to the Windy City?”

Caleb Wilson: “It’s exciting. I can’t wait for the opportunity. I’m excited to help that team and organization get back to where it was. And I feel like I’m a great step in the right direction.”

Laura Govan: “What makes you want to help them so much, now that you’re heading there, and with the history of the Bulls?”

Caleb Wilson: “It’s a great city, a great basketball culture, and a great fan base. I want to get it right. That’s what I wanted to do at North Carolina. Now I want to do it again.”

Laura Govan: “I can feel your energy right now. It seems like you’re itching to get out there already. How excited are you to join a team where you can make an immediate impact with your skill set?”

Caleb Wilson: “I’m extremely excited. I really can’t wait. And it’s time to see red. That’s all I got to say.”

Laura Govan: “Does the moment feel real yet? You’re here with your family, your little sisters are here watching you. Does it feel real?”

Caleb Wilson: “It feels real. But I know this is only the beginning. I’m excited, but I’m already thinking about what’s next.”

Laura Govan: “This wasn’t an easy year for you with the injuries you dealt with late in the season. How did that help push you through the draft process and get you to this night?”

Caleb Wilson: “It helped a lot, honestly. In all honesty, if I had been able to play in the tournament, I probably would’ve ended up on a completely different team. But I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a Chicago Bull. And I can’t wait for it.”

Laura Govan: “How are your emotions? How are you taking all of this in?”

Caleb Wilson: “I’m extremely excited. Chicago is where I wanted to be. So I couldn’t be any happier.”

The 19-year-old enters the league after an outstanding freshman season at North Carolina. Wilson averaged 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 57.8% from the field. His combination of size, athleticism, defensive versatility, and transition scoring helped establish him as one of the premier prospects in the draft.

Whether he ever reaches Michael Jordan’s level is a conversation for another day. Every young star enters the NBA with lofty dreams, and very few come close to matching them. What separates Wilson is that he isn’t afraid to say those dreams out loud.

The Bulls drafted a player with elite talent. They also drafted a player who believes the greatest career in basketball history is still within reach.
