Most NBA players wouldn’t be happy about having to relocate from Miami, but it appears Tyler Herro isn’t feeling too bad about it right now. Herro is headed to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the Miami Heat’s package for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and NBA insider Chris Haynes reports he is pretty happy about it.

“Sources: Tyler Herro is thrilled about a fresh start and playing for his hometown team the Milwaukee Bucks, “Haynes stated on X. “Herro always envisioned returning home at some point during his NBA career.”

Herro was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Jan. 20, 2000. His family supported the Bucks, and he was a fan growing up as well. A young Herro would have dreamed of representing the team one day, and that dream has now become reality. Not everyone might be greeting him with open arms, though.

Herro first made a name for himself at Whitnall High School, which is just a 20-minute drive from Fiserv Forum. He then verbally committed to Wisconsin in 2016, but then changed his mind and went to Kentucky.

That didn’t go down too well, as you’d imagine. Herro was called a backstabber and a traitor, and even received death threats, which was obviously unacceptable. The 26-year-old made the right call at the time, though, and a solid freshman season at Kentucky led to the Heat selecting him with the 13th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Herro averaged 13.5 points per game as a rookie, and it was evident the Heat had made a solid pick. He’d go on to win Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 and became an All-Star in 2025.

Herro wasn’t able to build on that in 2025-26, though, as injuries limited him to just 33 games. He still put up respectable averages of 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game.

For all of Herro’s good play over the years, his name always came up in trade rumors. It felt inevitable he’d be shipped out of town at some point, and he had a simple reaction to the trade on his spam account on Instagram.

“A time was had.”

To go with Herro, the Bucks will also receive Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a pick swap in 2030, and a 2033 second-round pick from the Heat. It’s a decent haul for a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber.

You wouldn’t expect these Bucks to make a lot of noise in the Eastern Conference next season, but Herro should shine, provided he stays healthy. He is going to be the first option on that team, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he has a career year.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely.
