Less than 48 hours after getting traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, Jaylen Brown sat down to livestream on Twitch tonight, where he spoke about several things, like his feelings about the Boston Celtics. He also spoke on the other offseason moves made around the NBA.
While addressing the Minnesota Timberwolves’ moves, he first spoke about LaMelo Ball landing in Minnesota through a trade package around Naz Reid. He sounded very excited to see his backcourt duo with Anthony Edwards.
“You got LaMelo and Antman, who knows what they are about to be getting into outside the court… I love both of them, bros. They are both my homies. I love both of them motherf—–rs, but they gotta get some supervision and some counsel or something,” said Brown before he broke out into laughter.
“[Imagine] Melo driving 100 miles an hour to the arena in Minnesota. God dam, Ant, you probably know where Ant though, he’s probably over there keeping it from the A. That’s going to be entertaining to watch.”
The Timberwolves have put the former No. 1 overall pick from the 2020 draft class together with the third overall pick of that season despite their initially reported concerns. Both these players have a lot of expectations on their shoulders due to the types of careers they have led since being drafted.
In the six seasons since they entered the league, Anthony Edwards has averaged 24.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 45.3% from the field and 36.9% from behind the three-point line. He also earned three All-Star selections and has led the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals twice in the last three seasons.
Meanwhile, LaMelo Ball has averaged 20.8 points, 7.3 assists, and 5.7 rebounds, going 41.8% from the field and 36.5% from behind the three-point line. Despite winning the Rookie of the Year over Edwards, Ball has only one All-Star selection, as he has struggled with injuries.
This backcourt has two of arguably the most controversial young players in the league right now, who are also known for their eccentric off-court personalities. Therefore, Brown is fired up to see these two play together on the same team.
Shortly after, Brown also addressed the Timberwolves’ decision to trade Julius Randle and Naz Reid.
“They let go of Naz Reid and Randle; I didn’t think they would ever do both,” said Brown.
“I didn’t understand that one. But he [Julius Randle] is back in New York, and I know Julius has a chip on his shoulder. Years have passed [since his trade from the Knicks], but he’s going to be locked in this summer to prove whatever.”
Randle was traded from the New York Knicks in 2024 and has now landed back in New York, but this time with their local rivals, the Brooklyn Nets. So Brown expects Randle to use this chance to prove his critics wrong.
Since the Knicks are now the defending champions, Randle will hope to probably be the next villain of New York. But it will certainly be interesting to see how the Timberwolves look after such major changes this offseason.
